Working together with horses and your clinician can be a very rewarding and empowering experience. No riding experience is needed as this program focuses purely on grounded exercises. When a client works with a horse for the first time, they experience a plethora of emotions. Horses have helped human for generations as a mode of transportation, help us plow our fields, alert us when danger is near and companionship when no one else would listen. This is why starting a therapeutic journey with a horse can be that once in a lifetime experience that can heal our souls and give us a voice to our emotions that we thought we never had.
Horses help clients identify behaviors in the hear and now and the unique and creative hands on exercises can help identify underlying triggers with ease, thus empowering a person to take healing steps in a supportive and encouraging environment. In working on my dissertation thesis for my doctorate program, I researched several different treatment modalities to treat post traumatic stress disorder in members of the military looking to increase their overall coping mechanisms. Equine assisted psychotherapy came out as the first contender to use as a viable short-term modality. Working collaboratively with horses as a treatment team and watching clients go from "I can't" to "I can" has lead me to further pursue the healing dynamics of of equine assisted wellness.
In addition to my equine assisted wellness program, I also work with clients virtually. Some clients prefer the ease of working with a clinician virtually instead of face to face. Also when clients are in between equine wellness sessions I have established virtual check-ins in to be sure the client continues to make positive strides towards their goals. This is an added support benefit to the client as they apply the exercises learned in the arena and are applying them to everyday life.
All first time clients will receive a free initial 45 minute virtual phone call to talk more about what is going on and see if our equine wellness or virtual program is a good fit for the client.
